1. Transparency Principle
Transparency is a fundamental requirement when using Artificial Intelligence (AI). Authors must clearly and accurately disclose the extent to which AI was used in the creation, modification, enhancement, or generation of any content published to the Boom Learning platform, including images, text, audio, video, and other materials. This disclosure requirement applies regardless of whether AI was used to create entirely new content or to edit, enhance, translate, summarize, or otherwise modify existing content.
Transparency is not merely an ethical best practice. In many jurisdictions, disclosure of AI-generated or AI-assisted content is a legal obligation, and additional laws and regulations continue to emerge. Authors are responsible for complying with all applicable laws, regulations, and professional obligations relating to AI-generated content. Failure to provide accurate disclosures may result in removal of content, account restrictions, forfeiture of funds, suspension, termination of Store privileges, or other enforcement actions.
2. AI Image Generators
Except as explicitly allowed in this policy, use of AI Image Generators is FORBIDDEN. There are a number of open lawsuits against several AI Image Generators because there are several reports of AI Image Generators producing images that infringe on protected works, so much so that the AI produced image included the original copyright owners’ notices and watermarks. Only the AI Image Generators listed in this FAQ are deemed suitable for use with schools and in Boom Cards.
2.1. Making Novel (New) Images
Use of AI Image Generators to generate novel images is permitted ONLY using the following AI tools:
- Adobe Firefly (Business/Enterprise plans)
- Shutterstock AI
- Getty Images AI by Getty Images
- Canva AI (Pro and higher)
2.2. Using Images Made By AI
Including AI generated images purchased from any source other than Adobe, Shutterstock, Getty, or Canva images is prohibited for materials published to the Store.
2.3. Editing Your Own Images
Use of AI Image Generators to modify your own images is permitted if you upload your own art and ask the tool to edit it. For the absence of doubt: "your own images" means images you created yourself that are not a copy of the works of another. AI images that are derived from the creativity of other persons where such creativity is still covered by copyright or by moral rights are not permitted. We strongly recommend that you use a professional or business service that respects your rights in your works and will not produce a revision that will look like the intellectual property of a known and identifiable third party. Do not use Stable Diffusion or Midjourney.
In all cases, you should not use AI generated art that makes a subject look unflattering or otherwise could be perceived as casting the subject in an unflattering light.
2.4. Disclosure/Citations
You must disclose to customers, and the public the extent to which AI was used to generate novel images. Use words like: "AI image generated using [tool]." You must name the tool used to create the AI image. You are required to disclose the use of AI to edit images you own. You are also required to add to the Acknowledgements that you are the source of your images.
Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, you can. Please give credit to the designer in acknowledgements and add required disclaimers from Section 2.4.
If I buy images from a designer and they use an AI to modify their original artwork, can I use that image?
Yes, you can. Please give credit to the designer in acknowledgements and add required disclaimers from Section 2.4. You will be responsible for ensuring that the image complies with Section 2.2 (approved image generators) and Section 2.3 (non-infringing and non-disparaging).
3. AI Text Supportive Tools
Users may elect to use AI to help develop the content of their Boom Cards. Doing so is permitted. All content added to the store, regardless of how generated, must adhere to our Acceptable Use Policies for Public Authors. Lack of care, particularly around the factual accuracy of information and the creation of intentional copies of copyrighted works will result in action against your account up to and including forfeiture and banning. You must fact check all AI generated content to ensure it does not include hallucinations. You will need to disclose your use.
4. AI Voice
AI-generated or AI-modified voice content may be used in Boom Cards and other materials published to the Store only in accordance with this policy.
4.1 Creating AI Voice Content
You may use AI voice generation tools to:
- Create original narration using synthetic voices.
- Improve the quality, clarity, pronunciation, pacing, or accessibility of your own recorded voice.
- Translate your own original narration into another language.
All voice content must comply with our Acceptable Use Policies and all applicable laws.
4.2 Voice Cloning and Impersonation
You may not:
- Clone, replicate, simulate, or imitate the voice of another identifiable person without their express written consent.
- Create content that falsely suggests endorsement, sponsorship, approval, or authorship by another individual.
- Use AI to impersonate teachers, students, public figures, celebrities, historical figures, or private individuals in a misleading manner.
- Use AI voice technology to harass, deceive, defame, intimidate, or misrepresent another person.
Because many jurisdictions now recognize legal rights in a person's voice and likeness, violations of this section may result in immediate removal of content, account restrictions, forfeiture of funds, suspension, or permanent removal from the Store.
4.3 Student Safety and Educational Use
Voice content intended for educational use must:
- Be age-appropriate.
- Avoid deceptive practices that could lead students to believe they are communicating with a real person when they are not.
- Not encourage emotional dependency or manipulation.
- Be reviewed by the author for factual accuracy and educational suitability before publication.
4.4 Disclosure Requirements
Where AI has been used to generate or substantially modify voice content, authors should disclose the use of AI and the generator in the acknowledgements and accompanying materials.
Examples:
- "Narration generated using AI voice technology."
- "AI-enhanced audio based on the author's original recording."
- "Translated and narrated using AI tools."
Transparency helps customers make informed decisions and complies with emerging legal requirements regarding synthetic media.
5. AI Videos
AI-generated or AI-modified video content may be used only as permitted by this policy. All such usage must be disclosed.
5.1 Permitted Uses
Authors may use AI tools to:
- Create original educational animations and demonstrations.
- Generate background visuals, special effects, or educational illustrations.
- Improve accessibility through captioning, translation, summarization, or audio description.
- Edit videos that the author created or owns.
Authors are responsible for reviewing all AI-generated video content for accuracy, quality, appropriateness, and compliance with this policy.
5.2 Prohibited Uses
The following uses are prohibited:
- Deepfakes or manipulated videos intended to deceive viewers about a real person's actions, words, opinions, or appearance.
- Videos that impersonate or misrepresent any identifiable individual without consent.
- Videos that use a person's image, likeness, or voice without permission.
- Videos that violate copyright, trademark, privacy, publicity, or other intellectual property rights.
- Videos that could reasonably harm the reputation or dignity of another person.
- AI-generated content depicting students, teachers, or children in ways that are misleading, inappropriate, exploitative, or unsafe.
5.3 Student Privacy
Video content may not contain personally identifiable student information, education records, or other protected information submitted to third-party AI systems unless expressly authorized and protected by appropriate contractual, privacy, and security controls.
Authors are responsible for complying with all applicable privacy laws, including COPPA and FERPA requirements where applicable.
5.4 Disclosure and Labeling
Any material use of AI to create or substantially modify video content must be disclosed.
Examples include:
- "Video generated using AI."
- "AI-assisted animation."
- "AI-enhanced video based on original author content."
- "Certain scenes were generated or modified using AI tools."
Where technically available, authors are encouraged to preserve AI-generated content indicators, provenance information, metadata, or watermarking supplied by the AI provider.
5.5 Human Responsibility
Authors remain fully responsible for all video content published to the Store, regardless of whether AI assisted in its creation.
AI-generated videos must be:
- Fact checked.
- Reviewed for hallucinations and inaccuracies.
- Reviewed for bias and inappropriate content.
- Evaluated for age appropriateness and educational value.
- Corrected before publication where necessary.
The use of AI does not transfer responsibility for compliance with our policies, applicable laws, or educational standards.
6. Boom Learning's Use of AI
Although the Boom Learning app does not have AI features at this time, we do use AI supportive tools in our business.
We are sharing here our AI Policy for your reference. Contact legal@boomlearning.com if you have questions about our AI Policy.
Use of AI in our Business
Artificial Intelligence (AI) exists where a machine has been trained (as opposed to programmed) to imitate the human cognitive skills of perception, pattern recognition, and decision-making. It has promise but is only as good as the data it is trained on. We may use AI in our business by creating it ourselves, adopting AI from others, or a combination of using the algorithms of others with our own modifications or our own data.
The ethical use of AI requires that employees who choose to use AI are transparent with each other, employees, candidates, and customers about when and how we use AI.
- give customers a choice about whether to rely on AI or not
- ensure that AI use never discloses the personal information of any employee or customer to another customer or another business (such as an AI provider)
- select AI tools that do not have built-in bias (in the context of AI "bias" means systematic distortions resulting from insufficiently broad training libraries or algorithms that result in distorted results)
- managers must supervise AI use in their divisions and ensure proper training
- managers are accountable for their selection of AI to use in their divisions and for ensuring they conduct adequate due diligence and develop adequate training for their team members
- use of AI is ethical and comports with business policies and procedures
- all "factual" outputs from an AI must be independently fact-checked before being published as "fact" and all errors corrected
- all outputs shall be examined for bias and revised to remove bias
- professional judgment cannot be delegated to an AI
- may not be used by any person who is not a licensed attorney or directly under the supervision of a licensed attorney to see legal advice.
- prompts that require professional judgment to arrive at a correct answer must be written and evaluated by a person with the requisite professional judgement who is sufficiently skilled to evaluate the probability of distortions or hallucinations in the answer and with the tools to check the result against reliable professional resources.
Privacy and Security First
Employees and contractors may NEVER enter data into a third-party AI vendor's system that could provide a third party with access to the confidential information of the company or the personal information of an employee, contractor, candidate, or customer without legal approval and an agreement in place protecting the privacy and security of the information. Information should never be entered that could expose a vulnerability in our system to the eyes of unethical parties.
Traceability and Recordkeeping
Any decision to create or deploy AI shall be documented. Developers deploying AI are responsible for ensuring the training data and the resulting AI product results are appropriate, free of bias, and accurate. Any internally developed AI should be "traceable", meaning we contemporaneously document the provenance of any included data, processes, and outcomes involved in the production of the AI model. Documentation shall include
- the business rationale
- data included
- risk assessments (including bias, privacy, and cybersecurity risks)
- design and development specifications
- testing results
- deployment records
- post-deployment risk monitoring and mitigation
People, Likenesses, and More
AI can be a powerful tool for editing, correcting, and improving pictures and videos. However, people have rights in the use of their likenesses. If the subject of the editing has not explicitly signed a release giving us consent to make edits to an image or video, do not use any tool, including AI tools, to do so. As a general rule, never edit in a way that can be perceived as disparaging towards the subject. Finally, it is absolutely forbidden to use AI to impersonate an individual for any purpose without express consent to use the person's likeness, whether or not there was intent to defraud. AI edited images should always be labeled as AI edited.
